Mortasheen - Draculantern by scythemantis Mortasheen - Draculantern by scythemantis
"Pumpkin Vampire"

CLASS: VAMPIRIC

This bloated, nearly sessile cousin to the Abysmal is native only to the Pumpkin Bog, a waterlogged jungle of thorny vines and titanic gourds bordering Mortasheen's Flesh Forest. Among the few vampires incapable of levitation, the monster devotes its brainpower entirely to its mesmerizing lure and unusually refined pyrokinesis.

Unusually, creatures bitten and enslaved by a Draculantern contract an aggressive flesh-eating infection from their first bite, deteriorating rapidly in body and mind until nearly indistinguishable from the animate dead. Before their final collapse, hosts are sent forth to hunt down suitable replacements.

------------------------

Exaggerated from my own crappy pumpkin this year. Being hideous Florida with all its hideous sunlight and warmth, ,all of our pumpkins rotted into hairy mush in only two days, never even being lit. The least I could do was give mine an afterlife as a collectible battle-monster.

I'm really late in saying this, but, among the countless jack-o-lanterns I've seen in neighborhoods and at Halloween parties and in real-life contests and Internet contests and on Deviantart and everywhere else, I have never once seen an angler fish jack-o-lantern. You, sir, are a trailblazer!

Holy crap. This is cool. Maybe you only based it off your pumpkin, but it's still cool. Your vampires are still some of my favorite of your Mortasheen creatures, and this is no exception. Very sweet design and concept.

The Pumpkin bog sounds like great fun for creature designs, I think you have other pumpkin creatures but I'm not sure on the best way of finding them all.

Do some of them live there too? I could imagine the Jekyllantern and escaped Hollowile doing so. Would make an interesting scenario for your rpg, a bog full of normal looking pumpkins with some surprises hiding whithin.

Probably! In fact, since Botanical monsters are both plant and animal, Hollowile would have perfectly good blood and may be a frequent rotting host/minion to Draculanterns...

My god, its name is one of the best puns ever used in Mortasheen and there are a lot of good ones already.

What'd you use for the teeth on the "real" one?

They are actually glow in the dark "pumpkin teeth" bought in bags. They were at a thrift store, I've never seen them for sale before and they look a bit old!

This totally trumps mine.

We just carved a pumpkin with five eyes. He rotted rather quickly (an hour).

Even though this is cousin to the Abysmal,is this part plant in some ways? The Lure looks very much like it's made of actual wood.Though parts of the lure seem bone like in some ways.

It's a different kind of gourd that often gets sold in pumpkin patches. Some are as warty and lumpy as the monster design but I chose mine based on its stem :p

The freakiest part? There actually IS a fish that has "pumpkin" in its name, the Pumpkinseed. Sadly, while it does have a similar color scheme to a pumpkin, it otherwise looks NOTHING like one. :XD:

That's to be expected, there are so many fish there's one named after virtually everything that exists :p
