If you're not a regular visitor to bogleech.com, I've been posting a new Halloween-related something or other every single day since the last week of September. Sometimes it's not bigger than a blog post, sometimes it's a whole new article. You can follow them most easily on my blogger
[link] or twitter
[link] right now!
Two more coloring books are coming, though they're just the existing book split into two for a bit cheaper. One will concentrate all the darkest, most adult imagery and the other will be MILDLY more kid-friendly.
I might tackle making some videos for the first time, since that's the kind of thing the internet really likes these days. You might hear my dumb voice talk about something useless!
Also, a HALLOWEEN POLL-LIKE QUESTION BUT WITHOUT A REAL POLL ATTACHED:
There are several monsters recognized as Halloween's primary "mascots." Specifically vampires, werewolves, mummies, Frankenstein's monster, the grim reaper, witches, ghosts and skeletons. What other monsters do you think would most fit in with this bunch, and make the most sense to start showing up as Halloween costumes, treats, toys and decorations every year? This will be the subject of one of my articles on Bogleech closer to the day itself, though it's already written. It's based more on an objective evaluation of monsters than my personal tastes alone, and it'd be interesting to see if anyone picks some of the same creatures.
AND A SECOND QUESTION:
What classic monsters would you like to see represented in Mortasheen? I already have a batch planned for Halloween, so again I'm just seeing if anyone is like-minded, but maybe enough suggestions will sway me to add more. Naturally, they will be just barely recognizable in the end.
Aside from those, one of my favorites is Vucub Caquix. [link]
Classic Monster: This may be more fringe, but ninmenju, a plant with fruit resembling human heads, or perhaps the scythian lamb.
Linnorms- I think that these grotesque poison-breathing snake-like Norse dragons would work perfectly for Halloween, far mroe so than the more refined dragons of modern myth.
The Hidebehind- It's a creature that is always behind you no matter what (So nobody knows what it really looks like), ready to kill you and eat you. If that's not enough for a Halloween monster
Mothman- An ominous, shadowy figure that always seems to come by when disaster's afoot. Perfect for halloween creepiness!
Trolls- Norwegian-style trolls with their shaggy hair, bulbous noses and sometimes multiple heads have this very primal creepyness mixed with goofiness that I would love to see more often for Halloween.
Also, for classic monster archetypes that I'd want to see in Mortasheen:
You've done most of the creepy doll archetypes in the doll section of the Abiozoa section, but you haven't yet done the creepy porcelain baby doll archetype yet, and I'd love to see what you'd do with that
You haven't really done anything specifically based on the Frankenstein monster, so I'd like that too. As a bit of an idea hook, in the novel Frankenstein created his monster based on alchemical principles (Technically making it a homunculus), something his teachers ridiculed him for before the creature's creation
I'd love to see a unique take on the whole "slasher" (That is, a nigh-invulernable serial-killing human) archetype from you. Maybe as a wormbrain, zombie spawn (Ala Jason), an unknown (Sort of like Michael Myers) or a Botanical (Think murderous Solomon Grundy)
I'd also love to see some sick parody of the Twilight sparkly vampires, maybe as a zombie spawn.
Also, a tingler-inspired monster would be perfect for Mortasheen.
A Gremlins/Critters inspired creature would be awesome as well, hordes of small, furry, toothy, clever and mean creatures would be so awesome.
And that's all I got. Hope you like 'em!
