Mortasheen - Escarghoul by scythemantis Mortasheen - Escarghoul by scythemantis
"Grave Snail"

CLASS: Zombie mutation.

The first of these dim-witted scavengers is believed to have been an isolated mutation in which a normal zombie, in its constant cycle of decay and regeneration, probably absorbed the body of a small gastropod and created a new substrain of the zombie virus. Since then, the creatures have multiplied, transmitting the same mutation through their bite. Infected corpses will eventually lose the majority of bones and organs, their eyes and mouth growing to abnormal proportions as the flesh takes on an amorphous mud-like consistency.

An Escarghoul adopts the first hard, heavy object it encounters as a "shell", with a particular preference for flattened slabs of stone, which it hides behind when frightened. Though sluggish and dim-witted, it can withstand far more abuse than the average human zombie and its slithering body can traverse a wider range of terrain; even conquering the dreaded staircase. Its sticky skin holds fast to organic matter, fusing inseparably to prey at the lightest touch. It prefers to attack the stomach, biting through flesh and sucking out the entrails.

Wait, I seem to have forgotten to explain why Escarghoul is the best. It's partly because it bears a strong resemblance to the best Digimon EVER:

...And partly because gastropods are just awesome. Okay, now I'm really finished talking.

Yep, it's pretty hard NOT to love a yellow poop with arms-- especially when he comes with his own adorable pink sidekick!

Sure they can withstand a staircase-
but escalators may become deadly foes.
Zombies learned this in dawn of the dead.

You have a strange way of making things both disgusting and cute. I noticed this one isn't a "fusion of X with a human", like most of the Mortasheen.

I think snails are actually pretty cute, but it's far too easy to make the look horrible.
This guy looks like the digimon 'Numemon'. [link]

Still.... If this becomes a game (while doubtful), I'd totally play it!:)

It reminds me of the chapter in the book Stiff by Mary Roach where she's at this place where they study rotting corpses XP

Undead snails with human eyeballs are cute, just like Gary from Spongebob Squarepants.

Hang on, what's the relation between the two creatures? Is the one with the skull a younger one that hasn't found something to hide behind?
