"Bubble Wraith"

CLASS: BIOCONSTRUCT

This dread being feeds primarily on heat, light and radiation, even sustaining itself off exposure to the sun. Through physical contact with another living being, it can quickly reduce the victim a frozen, withered shell as it draws out energy, even absorbing thoughts and memories in the process. Once it reaches a certain capacity, it explodes in an impressive and dangerous fireball, scattering one to three flea-sized offspring in the process.

A drainwave's tiny jaws are employed only to supplement its diet with the occasional scrap of meat or foliage. Its metallic eyes are constantly changing color under exposure to light.

-------STUFF-----

This is based directly on one of my favorite animals, the giant (marble-sized) deep sea Ostracod (other species are pinhead sized) Gigantocypris agassizii [link]

I used the name "Drainwave" once before, but later changed that monster's name to "Lobotomask" and have had the orphaned, but really cool name sitting around for a couple years since.

Cool! Might be one of your top 10. Reminds me of the Vacuumorph in After Man.

Oh gosh, that critter (the real animal) is so cute. It looks like a bowling ball wearing a Groucho-esque fake nose and glasses and that's awesome.

This guy's adorable too :D

A nature documentary called it "possible inspiration for alien" but they didn't mean it literally. It got spread around the web as a trivia fact, but Giger based his alien on parasitoid wasps and had been painting similar monsters since before this crustacean was discovered :)
:iconspydrxiii:
OH! ok, well thanks for the clear up! any particular parasitic wasp?

Nah just in general. There's thousands of wasps that chew their way out of a host body.
