Mortasheen - Doldrum by scythemantis Mortasheen - Doldrum by scythemantis
"Shuffling Tar Pit"

CLASS: BIOCONSTRUCT

This war-giant can be a tricky opponent in close combat, with thick bone and dense muscle beneath its putty-like, impossibly adhesive flesh. It deliberately sheds its sticky tissues in its footsteps, leaving a veritable minefield of glue traps as it slowly circles its enemies. Once caught, they face a hideous death by suffocation in the monster's embrace or a messy impalement on its massive tusks. It has even been known to tear off pieces of itself to hurl at more distant foes.

Doldrum feed only on bone, and will regurgitate the other soft tissues of prey in tarry pellets. They collapse into a puddle-like shape at rest, and are often used to fill trenches as a defensive tactic

ART STUFF:

This is one of a few Mortasheen monsters that I've sketched here and there for almost the entire time I've been doing these things, but somehow never felt up to the task of finishing until now. It's had a trunk off and on, different numbers of tusks, different numbers of eyes and gone through quadrupedal, legless or armless doodles and never seemed quite right. Today I just sort of spontaneously sat down and drew it full-size like this, and for now, I think it's perfect.

...I probably shouldn't look at this stuff, while listening to a song called "crawling"...

This is a beautifully repulsive creature! Ighoude's skin has some of the same qualities (that is, it's prone to sloughing off and littering the ground in his wake), but you've done a much better job at portraying "dripping" skin than I have.

To me, I seems much like Hedorah - with tusks and bones. ^^

Otherwise I can only agree with whalewithlegs. You made a really good choice for its appearance.

I can imagen Doldrum in a location like the "Bug Muk" from Secret of Evermore, emerging from a tar pit and throwing pices of himself at his horrified prey to immobilize it.

It seems like an amorphous creature, so if you don't like the way it looks you can always say that it can change shape.

I love how it has just one eye, to emphasize the mistakes that have been incurred by poor skeletal identification of elephant skulls. XD

I always loved the visual of a giant one-eyed man with an elephant mouth :p
