"Shadow-trap Vampire"
CLASS: VAMPIRIC
This vampiric piscoid spends most of its existence hovering silently in place, negating the surrounding light to cloak itself in shadow. It hunts via bioluminescent, independently mobile spheres of jelly or "wisps" that even the most intelligent creatures find incredibly enticing, immediately hungering for their soft, blue light against all better judgment. Once it has drawn prey into its cloud of darkness, the vampire snaps shut its upper jaw like a Venus fly-trap, draining blood through its many hollow teeth.
Particularly ancient Diognathus have far larger upper jaws but barely larger bodies, often consisting of more than 99% jaw.

The "Skawk" is based on the same animal as this guy (a wolf-trap angler) but it was high time I base something more explicitly on one. It is, after all, my very favorite fish. The real thing really does clamp its upper jaw over prey length-wise.
