Mortasheen - Chernoblench by scythemantis Mortasheen - Chernoblench by scythemantis
"Meltdown Man"

CLASS: BIOCONSTRUCT

Startlingy strong for its sickly, blemished figure, this babbling humanoid emits enough radiation to at least mildly sicken most other creatures by sheer proximity. Crystalline structures in its brain and siliceous ocular bulbs channel this energy into highly focused microwave signals, inflicting considerable discomfort at a distance and dissolving cellular bonds at closer range. Hair, teeth and nails are the first to slough away under this bombardment, shortly before the victim's flesh begins to blister, peel and melt into the viscous, meaty pudding the Chernoblench subsists upon.

Chernoblench personify radiation itself as a "she" and often express a desire to "be with her." To this end, they are drawn like moths to high-output sources of radioactive energy, even enough to finally destroy their astoundingly resilient bodies.

Love the melting skeleton look of this one. I really like the creatures that look so menacing yet pathetic at the same time. Which probably makes things worse when it melts your flesh.

Nah he just has very loose folds of skin, actually kinda based partly on how a soft-shelled turtle looks, though the overall shape is based on a sloth :)

Yeah I'm not sure whether I think of that as the nose or mouth myself. It's likely it's the opening to both its throat and sinuses, and nobody knows what its face would be like if it wasn't constantly dissolving.

Was the name based off of Chernobyl or Chernobog?

Was this originally a zombie? I can see a worm.

Nah, I have lots of non-zombies with worms, maggots and rotten flesh. Zombie class is different :)

That leads me to my next question: What kind of freaky worm can withstand that much radiation? Mortisheen must have some badass annelids.

It's been an irradiated and polluted world for thousands of years by the time Mortasheen city arises.

There are actually very large earthworms who thrived in the fallout of Chernobyl :)

That worm and its bretherin are the true survivors of the mortisheen world.

Was this at all inspired by The Incredible Melting Man?

I wonder how these would get along with Exovoros. Friendship or rivalry?

They would probably be enamored, but Exovoros might be weirded out.

I forget, has there been any radiotrophic fungi in Mortasheen yet? If there hasn't, why?

I don't know if this was intentional or not, but I really like how you included a bit of Megatherium in this design. I wonder what the "bombardment" would look like... Would it be visible eye beams or just the creature staring at the victim so intensely that the latter appears to melt?

The latter! Its eyes probably glow a bit greenish, of course, proper monster radiation glows greenish.

I did use a sloth skeletons as reference :D
