A reconnaissance monster rivaling the much older Oculapus in popularity, the small but durable Bemzuul can focus its vision on small subjects up to a mile away and telepathically transmit its perspective to any individual who knows its unique set of psychic "keywords." It can even be commanded to recall, erase or edit specific segments of visual information from its photographic memory, or "broadcast" stored visions to all sentient beings within a certain area.
When a Bemzuul is threatened by a visually-equipped enemy, it releases a brilliant burst of light from its eyes that leaves the victim stunned for several seconds while the avian monster invades its mind and tampers with its visual memory. No other area of the mind is affected, but the victim may remember an entire different-looking creature or object in the Bemzuul's place, or in the most extreme cases, forget entire years worth of visual input. As this can force an individual to re-learn faces or even an entire written language, the Bemzuul makes as versatile a weapon as it does a scout.
Bemzuul rarely produce sound, but may croak in a toadlike manner when pleased. Their necks are completely boneless, allowing their heads to rotate and contort in unusual ways. The Bemzuul's preferred food are eggs, especially the fertile eggs of reptiles.
---arty stuff---
First new monster in a long time, and only my second-ever bird monster with functional, feathered wings.
The name of course comes from the forgotten term B.E.M. for "Bug Eyed Monster," a phrase coined back between the 40's and 60's when almost every single movie and comic book alien fit that description. I stuck zuul on it because it just sounds cool. And I guess also because there is no Dana.
The design is a bit silly looking to me, though effective for its backstory, which is incredibly cool!
