A long, long time ago, I worked on a concept for a simple side-scrolling platform game, which even created a playable level for.
After the project sort of disintegrated on its own, my earliest enemy designs became the very first "Mortasheen" monsters, including Chainsaw Kid and Eyedra.
Now that I can draw quite a bit better, I felt like updating the main character's design, just for fun.
The basic premise of Crepuscular is that every possible setting and theme is represented by its own pocket universe, and one dimension of pure horror, darkness and hatred sets out to conquer and assimilate the rest of reality. Along the way, it crosses paths with the opposite extreme; a world of pure innocence, happiness and dancing, singing animals. The latter is decimated by the armies of nightmare as little more than a casual warm-up, and immediately forgotten in the grand scheme of things. We can assume that the rest of existence fights a battle of unfathomably epic proportions, but our story focuses on the apocalyptic future of the formerly adorable little world that got lost in the shuffle.
Eduardo the cat (I'm not sure where the name came from, I guess we just thought it fit somehow) loses his entire family to the rampage of a single demon, and in a fit madness succeeds in killing the beast. Horribly disfigured by the battle and infected with dark energies, he is able to stave off zombification only through regular consumption of demon blood, becoming his world's first and only professional monster-hunter.
I'm not sure if I'll ever pick this up as a serious game idea again, but I do want to draw a little more of this world.
Oh man, I remember this from back then. XD I didn't think you'd pick it back up, particularly since you'd exported many of its enemies to Mortasheen. Nice to see some of them old roots coming to the surface and turning into little zombie flowers of awesome reincarnate. And I have no idea where that metaphor came from. I must be tired.
Any plans on putting up stuff regarding the rehashed Noisy Tenant, or is that going to take a lot longer to remake material for?
